| 秋の日の暮れて 峠に辿りつく
|
Autumn evening fast falling, I reached the pass
after the whole day treading.
|
| 出会ひにて 水割り作る秋の沢
|
Coming across a waterfall, stirring the chilly water,
mixing whisky to taste.
|
| 目が遇ひて牡鹿どどっと 駆け下りぬ
|
A deer rushed down through the bush,
surprised seeing a stranger's face.
|

| 人に遇ひ語りて 下る冬の山
|
Talking quietly with a climber from somewhere,
descending the wintry hill together.
|
| 山寺の庫裏に ストーブもてなされ
|
The fire of the stove was a simple feast at the isolated temple.
|
| 雪山に迷ひ 里の戸叩くかな
|
Lost in the snow, knocking at the door of villagers for help.
|

| 鶯の声に 寝覚めしテント行
|
Bush warblers singing their morning songs,
waking up the party in the tent.
|
| 残雪に熊の 掌くっきりと
|
Bears' footsteps clearly left on the spots of snow.
|

| 登るほど郭公の声 近づけり
|
Up through the forest, cuckoos coming in our hearing.
|
| ひんやりと沢に動かぬ ひきがへる
|
A toad coolly stuck to the moist ground by the pool.
|
| 大いびき 皆笑ひだす登山小屋
|
The loud snores put us all into laughter in the summer cottage.
